Chances are, the Sokanista is coming to a city near you.  This is important information because Shermica Farquhar’s power cardio dance fitness class set to Afrobeats and Soca music looks like the perfect fusion of fun and fitness.   She started Soka Tribe after moving back to Washington, D.C. and feeling homesick.  She wanted to connect with others and she also wanted to feel in touch with her heritage.  Being the action-oriented entrepreneur she is, she created a movement that stirred her and ended up reaching many other people along the way.  Her bio:

“Shermica “Sokanista” Farquhar  is a Brooklyn-born Trini. Her mother jokes she learned to whine before she could walk and at age four she started dance training. Shermica has studied Ballet, Modern, Jazz, West African, Salsa and Hip-Hop. An avid Carnival enthusiast, Shermica participates in carnival  in Trinidad annually, and also made it to “de road” in New York, Miami, Boston, Washington DC, and Hollywood.

When she’s not dancing, Shermica is busy running Solutions by SF, the DC based growth strategy consulting firm she founded that is dedicated to helping individuals and organizations “Spring forward to the next level!” A true people developer, Shermica enjoys working with others to help them reach their potential. She brings her passion for growth, development, and cultural connections together as she leads Soka Tribe members towards their fun and fitness goals!” – sokatribe.com

Just look at her smile when she dances.  The joy is just flying off those feathers!

On top of all that workout whine and strategic consulting, Ms. Farquhar somehow still has more to share with the world – she is also a Professor at the Kogod School of Business at American University in D.C.

Visit her website to find out when you can take her dance fitness class in your city.
